Lock down challenge-Vegetable Gardening at home.

Gardening is one of the Hobbies that brings us close to the nature.Locked in home we are missing the nature and all of us are longing for a fresh breath of free air. Today our cities are growing at a rapid speed and pollution is all around us. You may be the person living in a apartment and missing the space for gardening. So now you can create a small little green area in your balcony and also enjoy some freshly grown organic vegetables.

Once you have thought of growing vegetable. The next most important thing is Planning.

For the best success a vegetable garden must be planned in advance. The site location of the garden is of utmost importance. The spot with full of sunlight is naturally the most convenient place, how ever water system, drainage and soil quality should also be considered. A good vegetable garden should receive at least six hours of full sunlight in order to mature properly.

The next thing is choosing which vegetables to grow.

The choice of vegetable will primarily depend on your choice of vegetable and what your family primarily likes. This first year of your garden, consider growing easy vegetables that typically taste better homegrown than store-bought., such as peas, snap beans and some salad greens. Good for small spaces: salad greens, beets, herbs, hot peppers, radishes and snap beans. Tomatoes may be more of a challenge.

Root vegetables are usually pretty easy to grow. Radishes and carrots are the easiest vegetables of them. I love to grow these vegetables because again, they can be directly sown into the ground or grown in a container

Next is the preparation of the Soil

Ideally, you want to loosen the soil to 12 – 18 inches deep. Depending on what kind of soil conditions you may have to add some water and let it soak in for a day or so—it will make digging much easier. The soil should be damp, not wet since that can destroy its structure. At this point you can begin adding your organic material—something like composted manure will work perfectly. You’ll want to spread roughly 4-6 inches of this material on top of the loosened soil. Let the organic material rest on top for a few days.

Planting of Vegetables.

Now that you are ready to begin plant your vegetables. Different plants require different depths in the soil but generally, plant seeds at a depth that is twice their diameter. Following this rule, you’ll find that the smallest seeds will be planted just beneath the surface. Growing conditions and ripening cycles are different depending on the plant and the season, so you should not sow all the seeds at the same time. Planting dates can be found on seed packets.

Maintenance of the garden.

Maintaining the garden is a very important aspect. Water your garden regularly and keep your garden free of weeds. Some pest control may be also needed.

Hope this few tips will help you starting your vegetable gardening in this lock down period. You will share and inform about your garden.
